The male gaze objectifies and sexualizes the female body. Here, the piece of 'meat' gazes back. A rather literal/explicit representation of the feminist concept, and a little ironic, too, that I decided to 'adjust' the model's body shape and cut off her head and limbs. Perhaps the
gaze is not so solely
male per se, and also more internalized than we like to think.

has actually done something with this notion in mind -->
[link] She had a slightly different approach though. Also, the female torso with eyes on the breasts is a concept I first explored as a sculpture I did almost 5 years ago, without really knowing the implications... but my teachers, who were female and feminist, responded really well to it.

phew... photomanipulation is hard work. I probably could have painted something along these lines in less time with the given references, but it was fun playing around with the tools in photoshop. I can't say I'm completely happy with the image, but it's my first photomanipulation to this extent, and I have no idea what else to do with it.
Critiques and suggestions welcome, as always!

When I first saw this (coincidently when you posted), I thought to myself how odd that the first place my eyes were drawn to on this naked female body was the breast line. And also how odd that I found that someone was looking back.
Then I noticed how she looked a little... undercooked. Then it clicked; "Omg! She's a peice of meat! Liang! I love you!"
Artisticly so well done. Exploring new mediums, and slinging some femminist rhetoric about. :-D How I love your work.
